Spring at Last?

The calendar says spring...and today it even felt a little like spring. Although on the first day of spring we had snow on the ground.  Quilting is evermore on my mind even as the garden awaits. I was out with the camera the other day and snapped a few promises of spring to come. Enjoy.

Vegetable Beef Soup

One of my favorite soups to make. I do a big batch and keep in the refrigerator to eat on all week!

1 # lean meat (round steak, sirloin, rib,  whatever)
2 onions (large dice)
3 stalks celery, diced
1/2 tsp ground pepper
1 # carrots , sliced
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
3 TBS Beef Broth Paste ( I use the schilling that you can get at Costco in the spice section. It is a paste and the first ingredient is beef, not salt!)
2 Quarts Water
3 TBS Worcestershire Sauce
1/3 C Red Wine (optional, but really adds flavor!)
2 Cans (14 oz ea) Tomatoes, stewed or diced
1 Can (14 oz) Tomato Sauce
4 oz Pasta, uncooked ( I like to use broken spaghetti but any pasta will do)

Dice the meat into small pieces , 1/2" or so (please don't get the ruler out!)
Saute meat for about 5 minutes. Add onions, celery, pepper  and garlic. Let simmer  about 1 hour. Add all the other ingredients. Let simmer together about 20 minutes, then taste. Add salt if needed or more beef paste.

Serve when pasta is cooked though.  YUM

Double Wedding Ring the ''easier" way

Beth wrote "I have two daughters who will be marrying within the next year. I would like to make a double wedding ring quilt, HOWEVER, i want to use a pattern/method that will not drive me insane. \"

Hey Beth

As you know, The Double wedding ring quilt can be a little daunting. I think the Quilt Smart system might do the trick for you. It uses preprinted interfacing as a "foundation" Krista used the Quilt Smart Double wedding ring to make a table runner that turned out fantastic.. and she said it was quite easy to do with these tools.

We have them in the store..... come on in and we'll hook you upl

Bumps

We are well underway with the new website... some bumps along the way. I am working on each one as they arise..  But all in all I LOVE the new site. My sister Sheila likes to send me pictures , jokes etc everyday. I don't always have time to respond to them but every once in a while, I find a gem.  Take a look at these pictures. Since we have our own brand of coffee, I thought these pertinent. Im sorry I don't have an original source... the email only said a coffee shop in Vancover.. So if you know of these folks please let me know and I will post credit where credit is due!

Cool huh?
